A minimum 2:1 degree (or international equivalent) in your subject area, plus at least one year of tutoring or teaching experience. Qualified teachers (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) are also welcome.
There are 5 stages: application review, document verification, a 30-minute teaching assessment, profile setup, and ongoing quality monitoring. The full process typically takes 2–3 weeks from application to first lesson.
You set your own rate. Typical UK online rates run about £30–65/hr — GCSE subjects commonly £30–45/hr, with A-Level and specialist subjects £50–65/hr. No platform fee is deducted from your advertised rate.
Yes. Every tutor on GCSETutors teaches children, so we require a valid Enhanced DBS check (with the children’s barred list) kept on the DBS Update Service — the same standard whether you teach online or in person. Since 21 January 2026 self-employed tutors can obtain one directly through a DBS umbrella body; you no longer need an employer to arrange it. Don’t have one yet? Absolutely. All sessions on our platform are supported online via video call. Many tutors teach exclusively online, which lets you work from anywhere and accept students across the country (or internationally).
Once your profile is live, our matching system connects you with families whose requirements align with your subjects, availability, and location. You are never required to do your own marketing — we handle student acquisition.
